In this class we will discuss serving the LGBTQ+ community as Massage Therapists, including the historical, social, emotional and physical challenges they may bring with them to our tables. We will look at the Social Determinants of
Health, frequently used terms, pronouns/names and why they matter, collection of demographic and gender data, and the physical challenges and changes experienced with Gender Affirming hormone therapy and surgery. This will not be a space for addressing politics or public policy; the intent is to increase our awareness as healthcare providers of our clients' experience of inequity in healthcare and how we can provide safe, affirming care. Bring a snack or lunch, an open heart and mind, and anything else you need to be comfortable.
